Zhengzhou CBD International Convention and Exhibition Center

Zhengdong New Area is located in the eastern part of Zhengzhou, the capital city of Henan Province. It was developed and constructed through investment by the Zhengzhou Municipal Party Committee and Municipal Government, in accordance with the urban master plan approved by the State Council, as part of a strategy to expand the city’s spatial framework, increase its scale, and accelerate urbanization and modernization. The area takes the relocated former Zhengzhou Airport as its initial development zone, supported by the national Zhengzhou Economic and Technological Development Zone. Its boundaries extend from National Highway 107 in the west to the Beijing–Zhuhai Expressway in the east, from the Airport Expressway in the south to the Lianhuo Expressway in the north. With a long-term planned total area of approximately 150 square kilometers—roughly equivalent to the current built-up area of Zhengzhou (132 square kilometers, with a permanent population of 2.6 million)—the new area is slated for completion within the next 20 to 30 years.

According to the finalized master plan, the former airport site has been designated as the Central Business District (CBD), while a 25-square-kilometer zone surrounding the CBD serves as the priority development area—the initial phase of the new district. This core zone will form a commercial and tourism development axis linking the new and old urban areas. Covering roughly 25 square kilometers, the initial development area will be connected to the existing urban center via subway and urban light rail, serving not only as the heart of Zhengdong New Area but also as the future nucleus of Zhengzhou. Grounded in the principles of symbiotic and metabolic urbanism, this emerging district will integrate office, research, education, cultural, commercial, and residential functions, set against the backdrop of Central Plains culture and the natural environment. The CBD itself occupies approximately 2 square kilometers and includes the “Zhengzhou International Convention and Exhibition Center,” the “Henan Provincial Art Center,” a five-star hotel—the New Zhengzhou Hotel—and 60 high-rise buildings. The main structure features a six-story circular layout with a total floor area of 60,800 square meters, comprising a multi-purpose hall accommodating 5,000 people, an international auditorium for 1,200 attendees, two conference halls each seating 400, and over a dozen smaller meeting rooms. Its roof consists of a folded conical truss arch structure, supported by a central mast 154 meters in diameter and twelve tripod‑like columns arranged in a radial pattern.
