在这一背景下,英文版“Large-Scale Urban Parks on Post-Industrial Sites in Contemporary Urban Landscape Conceptions”一书出版。

In the dimension of territorial landscapes, large-scale parks have been regarded as an important concept in contemporary urban landscape planning and design, which is closely related to contemporary urban development, dynamic urban landscape conceptualisation and process-oriented sustainable and low-cost post-industrial site transformation. Therefore, revealing the nature, function, characteristics and potentials of large-scale parks in China and the West from both theoretical and practical perspectives has become a challenging and interesting exploratory endeavour. Against this background, the book "Large-Scale Urban Parks on Post-Industrial Sites in Contemporary Urban Landscape Conceptions" is published in English.
Taking North America, Germany and China as examples, the book attempts to explore the growing concerns of landscape architects and urban planners about the sustainability of urban landscapes in the context of the Anthropocene, as well as the key elements of post-industrial site transformation, urban space regeneration, and the construction of large-scale parks that have been triggered as a result. At the same time, taking the transformation of post-industrial sites as a starting point, we will critically analyse the three large-scale park design models of North America's "organic parks", Germany's "structuralistic parks" and China's "shan-shui parks", with the aim of enabling more designers and urban planners to develop sustainable urban landscapes. The book aims to enable more practitioners to discover the power of landscape at the urban level, as well as the visions, attitudes and behaviours of contemporary park landscapes in different social, cultural and ecological contexts.
In the course of the research, the book attempts to answer:
What are the theoretical schools of thought that have emerged from critical thinking in the conceptions of urban landscapes in China and the West? What has happened to large-scale parks in the transformation of urban landscapes? How do the reorganisation of urban space, the transformation of social perceptions, and the ecological evolution of landscapes contribute to the emergence and development of new models of large-scale parks? How do we reshape the complex relationship between parks, urban nature and the contemporary city in theory and practice?
In short, the landscape architecture in the future will move beyond its current limitations to focus on how mobility can be ordered and aesthetically pleasing. This will mean being knowledgeable about the value and use of land and the political, economic, and cultural forces that influence its distribution. Large-scale parks can reflect the integrative value of land in the process of social, ecological and economic development, and around this the author looks forward to a more diverse range of critical landscape analyses and systemic thinking.

As revealed in Dr. Mengyixin Li's new book, the regeneration of post-industrial sites and landscape transformation from different regional cultural perspectives is a topic of great interest in landscape architecture around the world. Large-scale parks in urban regions are essential carriers to experience different land use cultures and nature, to enhance responsibility for the environment and to save social cohesion. In Germany, urban landscapes are both the analysis of the contemporary spatial structure and a program to improve fast growing and transforming spaces. This book will lay the foundation for a systematic and in-depth understanding of contemporary German critical urban landscape conceptions by Chinese scholars. Together with an increasing interest of German scholars on Chinese future spatial development strategies, it enriches the foundation of the interdisciplinary exchange. At the same time, I hope that increasing readers will discover the German and even European landscape architects' various comprehensions of the nature of the landscape.

Dr. Mengyixin Li skillfully traces the history of large-scale parks by describing both the political strategies and the system of theories that, over time, have formed the basis of this process that has recently changed not only our cities but also the mentalities of our designers. The author, through the analysis of projects planned and built on abandoned industrial areas, allows us to understand this still-moving picture in all its peculiarities and facets, demonstrating how the theme of environmental redevelopment in urban areas is not one of the themes of contemporaneity, but is the theme. She leads us to understand and deepen the cultural and theoretical bases that underlie the new parks: the new contemporary urban places where the topics of urban sustainability merge with landscape architecture and with the renewed need to reconnect with nature, even if tamed, during our leisure time as citizens. Looking to the future, there will always be a need to design new large parks without barriers and tailored to our large communities.
